The tension between the United States and some Muslim communities can be resolved if all sides face the sources of tension squarely and focus on mutual interests.

Quote-President: “Muslim countries around the world are filled with extraordinary people who simply want to live their lives and see their children live better lives, just as in America. Indeed, part of what makes America great is having nearly seven million Muslim Americans living here today and enriching our culture and communities.”

Each of us can extend that kind of relationship abroad. It won’t always be easy, but if we make an effort to bridge our differences rather than resigning ourselves to animosity, we can move toward a more peaceful world over time.

Demonstrating Power, Passion & Purpose

How big is our passion? How strong is our power? Why are we here? What is our purpose? The answer can be found by looking at how quickly we act on opportunities showing up in our life. The following story started over 17 years ago. And, she’s still doing it today. Now that’s purpose!

Severn Cullis-Suzuki 12-years old in 1992, earned the endearing reputation of being “The Girl Who Silenced The World for 5 Minutes” when she stood up in front of world leaders in Rio de Janeiro, at a United Nations Earth Summit Conference. She herself had raised the money to travel to the delegation, five thousand miles from her home, Canada.

Severn gave this speech in 1992 - yes, 17 years ago… and yet, her cause is stronger now more than ever. How much has changed? Did we even listen?

Relying on activists, environmentalists, the government, our community leaders, our parents, educators is not enough. “We must become the change we want to see,” as Gandhi put it.

What happens in the world on a global scale is outside our control as individuals. However we have full and complete control over what happens in our own backyards. If we work together we can make a difference.

We simply can no longer ignore what’s happening. It’s not a question of whose fault it is, or who made the mess or who should be cleaning up - we don’t have time for that. It boils down to one thing: Individual Responsibility.

You have two choices now:

1. To take action, spread her message and forward this to as many people as you can - before it’s too late!
2. Or you can continue as you are and remain status quo.

Severn Cullis-Suzuki was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. At age 9, Severn and some friends started the Environmental Children’s Organization (ECO), a small group of children committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues.

In early 2002, she helped launch an Internet-based think tank called The Skyfish Project. She is a member of Kofi Annan’s Special Advisory Panel. She and members of the Skyfish Project brought their first project, a pledge called the “Recognition of Responsibility”, to the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in August 2002.

Today, Severn is an environmental activist, speaker, television host and author. She has spoken around the world about environmental issues, urging listeners to define their values, act with the future in mind, and take individual responsibility.
